Often times, a bad washing machine hub can cause multiple issues such as your Whirlpool Washer will not agitate properly, or fails to spin out the water in the clothes properly, or even makes a grinding noise during agitation. All of these problems have a probable culprit of a bad hub underneath the wash plate.

However, if the problem is severe, the gearcase splines will be damaged, causing a new hub to simply tear itself apart on the gearcase in a matter of weeks. The normal fix is replacing the transmission.
